Last week, when I was in Austin visiting my nieces, I found out that I was chosen to fill a spot with the TSA in Singapore! I have applied for multiple international positions over the years, but I guess the timing wasn't right until now. My wonderful husband, Doug, is staying behind with our two pooches because we don't want to put them through the 30 hour journey and then 30 days in quarantine. The initial tour is for three years, with the possibility of a two year extension ... which would land me happily at retirement.
I have had a life-long passion for travel and learning about other cultures. You're probably wondering why I would leave my husband and the rest of my family for that long. Well, I have this disease called wanderlust. If I'm not actually traveling, I'm planning my next excursion. This opportunity is one that I simply can't pass up. It's truly a dream come true. Although I'll be living in Singapore, my job will take me all over the Asian and Oceanic worlds. This is likely a region that I would never have been able to visit, if it were not for this opportunity. My family gets that. I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "Only you, Kim!" I'll make it back to the states for annual visits, and I hope to have some visitors there, too. I think, as you follow my journeys, you will want to experience it for yourself.
Singapore is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world for a lot of reasons, one of which is the less stringent entry requirements. Combining the skyscrapers and subways of a modern, affluent city with a medley of Chinese, Malay and Indian influences along with a tropical climate, tasty food from hawker centres, copious shopping malls, and vibrant night-life scene, this Garden City makes a great stopover or springboard into the region.
